Medical Emergency

Medical Emergencies involving Staff or patrons:
Call 511 or 215-573-3333 and report the nature of the emergency and your location.

Notify the VP-DLC guard station (215-898-5444) and the Building Superintendent (215-898-1629) or (cell: 215-756-7469).

While waiting for an ambulance or medical personnel:

Comfort the injured or ill person.

Control onlookers so the injured or ill person has privacy.

Do NOT move an injured or ill person who has suffered a fall.

Perform only treatment needed to sustain life (e.g., control bleeding by direct pressure, etc.). If the person is not breathing, and, if you are certified, perform CPR.

Less serious medical problems involving staff

Weekdays 8am-4pm: Report injury/illness to the Library Human Resources Office (215-898-7568/3226). Staff member should go to Occupational Health (Ground Floor of HUP) for treatment.

After 4pm and on weekends: Go directly to HUP emergency room. Notify Library Human Resources as soon as possible the next business day.

Less serious medical problems involving Library Patrons:

Complete an incident report to record the person's name and details of the incident.

Offer to call campus police for assistance.
