A Library Education Extravaganza

Wednesday, June 7, 2006, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Van Pelt-Dietrich Library

Class of 1955 Room

9:00 – 9:30: Coffee and snacks

9:30 – 11:00: Consumer choice and social contagion
Dr. David Bell, Associate Professor of Marketing, Wharton

Dr. Bell will examine the notion of interdependence in consumer choice. Customer behaviors can be influenced by exposure to the behaviors of others. Social contagion theory suggests that influence can occur through direct social interaction or passive observation.

In order to better understand the mechanism and applications we will explore how such effects might operate on students as consumers of information. Dr. Bell will also address other recent research applications on Internet shopping behavior, and other forms of Internet-based social interaction.

11:00 – 11:15: Coffee break

Meyerson Conference Room

11:15 – 12:45: Roundtable discussion on teaching evaluation skills

This moderated roundtable discussion will focus on problems, issues, and strategies involved in teaching evaluation skills to students.

12:45– 2:30: Lunch on Your Own

Class of 1955 Room

2:30– 4:00: What librarians need to know about faculty needs
Dr. Marybeth Gasman, Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Education

This session, facilitated by a faculty member, will focus on what library support faculty members need. Your burning questions will be answered! Do faculty make a distinction between how they use the library and how their students use the library? What do they wish librarians would do that they don't? What are faculty members' expectations for librarians in assisting students to complete course-related work? Do faculty advise students about what library resources to use? All this, and any other questions that you may have will be addressed.
