IPC Organizational Changes   - Beth Picknally Camden
I would like to give you an update on the organizational changes taking place in the IPC, following the review by the technical services consultants in the fall of 2007.

The first phase of these changes was the merger of Lippincott technical services into the IPC. Planning for this change happened in the spring. June 16 was 'Day 1,' when workflow changes were put in place, and Elizabeth Moersh and Ellen Slack moved to new positions in the IPC. Although the major changes are in place, we continue to work on resolving new issues as they arise.

The second phase was announced in June. This is a merger of the Serials dept., the Electronic Acquisitions dept. and the E-Resources & Serials cataloging unit. The new Electronic Resources and Serials Dept. will be headed by Jeanne Shuttleworth. Although the internal structure has not yet been determined, units will be headed by Bob Persing, Katie Brady-Rizzio and Shana McDanold. A planning team has been appointed for a 3-month planning process. They are currently reviewing workflows and documentation.

We are now embarking on a third phase of organization change. Original Cataloging and Shared Cataloging Depts. will be merged into a new Cataloging and Metadata Dept. headed by Rachelle Nelson. This new Dept will have four units:
  1. Original Cataloging (headed by Bill Bovino)
  2. Shared Cataloging (to be hired)
  3. Rare Books Cataloging (headed by Regan Kladstrup)
  4. Non-print Cataloging (headed by Katia Strieck)
A planning team will be appointed in August for a 3-month planning process.

Additionally, Jennifer Sweda has taken on a new assignment as Documentation Officer for the IPC. This is a temporary, part-time assignment to inventory and review documentation across the IPC, with the goals of standardization, updating and filling gaps.

We have several months of planning before many of these changes are put in place, and some details may change along the way, but we thought that it was important to let you know about the changes in the works.

I would be happy to answer any questions that you have.
