Lost and Found - Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center
back to Policies and Procedures

Valuables
(e.g. ID cards, laptops, wallets, personal electronics, etc.)

1. Weekdays: Lost valuables should be turned in to the Library Business Office, second floor, Room 240, Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

2. Evenings/Weekends: Lost valuables should be turned in to the front door guard, who will notify the Library building supervisor on duty. The Building Supervisor will secure the items until the following business day, when they will be turned in the Library Business Office.

3. Patrons looking for lost valuables need to contact the Business Office Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. to retrieve their belongings.

4. The Business Office will contact patrons when ownership of items can be identified. NO ONE else in the Library is authorized to contact patrons about lost items.

5. For items that have not yet been turned in to the Library Business Office (e.g. same evening item was lost), patrons may contact the Building Supervisor on duty via the guard desk 8-5444.

Non-valuables
(e.g. books, glasses, jackets, scarves, papers, etc.)

1. Lost items should be turned in to the Rosengarten Reserve Desk promptly.

2. For each item, a Rosengarten Reserve Desk staff member will enter information on a log sheet, noting the date, a brief description of the item, and his or her initials.

3. Rosengarten will hold items in a Lost and Found bin behind the desk for the rest of the day.

4. Each day, the roving guard will collect the previous day's Lost and Found items and lock them in the Lost and Found closet on the ground floor of Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center.

5. Items will be kept for a minimum of 14 days.

6. The closet will be organized by date, so that unclaimed items can be disposed of in an orderly manner.

7. Unclaimed items will be delivered to a charitable organization twice a month by our library delivery staff.

8. Patrons looking for non-valuable property should be referred to the Rosengarten Reserve Desk.

9. Rosengarten Reserve Desk staff will check the lost and found log, and if the item is listed and no longer at the desk, will contact the Building Supervisor with the description.

10. The Building Supervisor will check the closet for the item. If there, the Building Supervisor will return it to the patron.
