Virus Scanning Service
Message from the POBOX Administrator

Although ISC Networking and Telecommunications has made spam filtering tools available on its email server since October 1, 2003, and that while these spam filtering tools may often also catch messages that contain viruses, we recognize that these tools were never designed to catch viruses within messages. Computer viruses contained in email often have characteristics different than spam and are typically designed to do damage and therefore may need specialized filtering that targets these viruses.

We have been looking at various commercial vendors that offer virus scanning and beginning the latter part of this month all email that is sent to or sent by users using our email server will first be scanned on our vendor's off-site remote server. This is a mandatory service and users will not be able to opt out of the scanning.

It is important that users are made aware that their email will be scanned and that users understand that our vendor is contractually obligated to adhere to the University's privacy policies. We strongly recommend that you pass this information on to your users.

A link to web pages that describe our virus scanning service in more detail is available from the account administrator's help page available at
